The Owl's Flower Storenvy shop is here! Our first batch of merchandise includes three different T-shirt designs in women's and unisex sizes, mugs (like the ones we gave away as prizes at the launch party), leggings in four colors, and a tote bag! All feature the Owl's Flower logo and/or original artwork.
Show your coworkers your favorite forest nuggets! Get total strangers telling you how adorable your leggings are! Buy a logo shirt and cosplay as Iris! (And if you do, for God's sake take a photo!)
Oh, and one other little thing... preorders for print copies of book 1 are also available! They should be shipping in mid-October, so reserve your copy now! All copes are made in-house by a small publisher.
We look forward to bringing you more merch as time goes on, and we hope you enjoy what's out so far!
At long last -- after formatting issues and cover redesigns, Book 1 is here in all its glory! You can download it right now absolutely free!
The comments so far have been really really awesome:
'Charming. In every sense of the word.'
‘ I really enjoyed this light novel and was inspired to make some cookies of my own! ♡ I look forward to the further adventures of Iris and Herne and friends!’
‘ There were so many cute & endearing parts. & I loved the feeling of romantic tension between the Herne & Iris. It felt so natural & not forced at all. […] I read a lot of paranormal books (Mercy Thompson, Wicked Lovely, Vampire Academy, Georgina Kincaid, etc) I love how it fits so nicely into the genre, but it’s so different.’
' like what a coincidence that the first time i saw an owl in the wild was the same day as owl’s flower came out?'
Okay that last one isn't a review but we still love it.
Book 2 is written and currently being illustrated, and we spent the day after Intervention plotting out Book 3... and there's much, much more to come. The books after this won't be free, but they will be pay-what-you-want... so we hope that you'll be game for at least throwing a little pocket change our way to see the further adventures of Herne, Iris, Stormy, Mrs. Waters, Frank, Dr. Armitage, Hyacinth, and...
Whoops, getting ahead of ourselves.
Stay tuned for news on physical goods and our Halloween release -- and if you've read our book and enjoyed it, let us know!
It happened! We had our book launch party at Intervention this morning! Coffee and tea were served, honey cookies were shared, and the new series was discussed.
We also gave out this very cool prize basket:
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us. More photos will be forthcoming after the convention.
For now, though... THE FIRST BOOK IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD! Head over to our shop and grab it in .pdf, .epub, or .mobi version. And no, that's not a mistake: the first book is free for download!
Bear in mind it has a temporary cover, and we had a mishap with the table of contents, but everything else is spot on. A new cover will be added early next week (which can then be seen on the shop page), and we'll post if you'd like to re-download the shiny new version. But for now, get your owl on!
And if you enjoy it, please let us know! We're hard at work on the second one, which we're hoping to have out on or around Hallowe'en.
Kara here -- as I type this, Ginger is finishing out her last day of work before she flies to Maryland, and I'm rushing around because, like a fool, I turned off three alarms in my sleep. The point is, Intervention starts tomorrow, and our big book launch is just two days away! It's this Saturday, 11 AM, in Panel Room 1. See the programming schedule for a map and grid.
We're bringing all sorts of delicious treats to the event -- there will be coffee courtesy of Ginger, as well as two custom teas specially blended by the staff at Discover Teas just for Owl's Flower!
On the left is our Owl's Flower blend: a mix of oolong, sage, and floral notes. Served hot, it's got a comforting, woodsy aroma -- just like walking through the forest in summer.
On the right is our Stormy blend, a mix of cinnamon spice black tea with cherry limeade notes. It will be served cold-brewed with sparkling water to serve as a fizzy, refreshing alternative to soda!
Also on the table will be our honey cookies, straight out of the book!
Based on a recipe by Angela Pritchett, these cookies are made with about two sticks of butter and half a cup of honey -- and they are delicious. They feature strongly throughout book 1 (although Iris has her own owl cookie cutter!), and the recipe is at the end so you can go home and make them yourself!
We even took a quick video of the taste test process with Emily, who did an amazing job of handling baking duties so Kara didn't break in two doing last-minute con prep:
And we've got another special treat for anyone attending. One lucky partygoer will get an Owl's Flower gift basket with four teas from Discover Teas -- our two custom blends, Blooms That Brighten, and their new San Franni Chai -- a Tuffy steeper, teaspoon, and Owl's Flower mug designed by Ginger!
Eventually these will be available to purchase off this site, but for now only the winner and the creators will have these.
So be sure to join us at Intervention for party time, first looks, and prizes! We can't wait to see you there!
Managlitch City Underground is a sci-fi podcast hosted by Glenn SevenFiftyFive, as he keeps his fellow 'glitchers' apprised of crazy happenings in the City of Accidental Wonders. Though now it's the City of Inconsistent Histories, as season 2 has landed Managlitch in a situation that makes Mandela theorists look tame.
That's not the only weirdness going on, either -- when Glenn switches frequencies, somehow he manages to pick up an ad voiced by Iris Faulkner for a local coffee shop called Owl's Flower!
... though really it's our writer, Kara Dennison (who also voices Artema Sable the demon hunter in Managlitch) and some owl sound effects.
Like the Owl's Flower team, the Managlitch team will be at Intervention 7 later this month in Rockville, MD, where they'll be doing a live recording with audience participation! If you'll be there for our book launch, be sure to stop in on the Managlitch recording, too!
Our book release is just around the corner, and it's happening at Intervention 7 in Rockville, MD! Saturday, September 17 at 11 AM, join us in Panel Room 1 for party time! We'll have snacks, coffee and tea (including custom blends from Discover Teas), door prizes, readings, time to chat with the creators, and more!
Owl's Flower is a light novel series created by Ginger Hoesly (Moon Man, BBC America's Doctor's Notes) and Kara Dennison (City of the Saved, The Black Archive).
The series puts a new spin on paranormal romance as Iris Faulkner and her forest deity boyfriend Herne tackle all the problems inherent in a mortal/immortal relationship — finding common ground, braving the opinions of a judgmental pantheon, and the occasional visit from an Elder God.
